Alex Rooney

thefusemusic

Alex Rooney took to painting from an early age, having work exhibited in the Dulwich Picture Gallery as a child. After leaving St Paul’s School, he studied drawing in Italy where he was exposed to a rigorous method of instruction. He went on to study Modern History at Queen’s College, Oxford. During that time, he maintained a studio in which he was able to further his painting studies. On returning to London, he built a studio in the South West of the city where he now devotes his time to portraits, figurative pieces and landscapes.

Alongside numerous portrait commissions, Alex Rooney has painted widely in France, Spain and America. He has also exhibited in several group shows, including The Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London. He won the 2009 Gordon Hulson Memorial Prize, Royal Society of British Artists, Mall Galleries.

Jonathan Freemantle

thefusemusic

Jonathan Freemantle relocated to Edinburgh from Amsterdam in 2006 and has since called it home. His work is internationally collected (most notably by HRH Prince Charles) following successful solo shows in London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Cape Town.

In 2002 he set up and directed the painting department of the now thriving Art Academy in London before choosing to focus entirely on his painting. To Jonathan, painting is “a language by which I can begin to fathom the underlying universe, the form behind the form” and is ultimately a question posed rather than a question answered. His work searches for the essence of the subject, the visual précis and emotional core.

Recently Freemantle's work has been exhibited alongside fellow collaborator, Ezra Mabengeza in the exhibition 'A Truth in Black & White', currently touring the world.
